UNI Panthers lose late lead, lose in 2OT to South Dakota
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -
The UNI Panthers had a late lead but couldn't hold it against South Dakota, losing in double overtime 38-31.
The Panthers started the game out strong with a 14-7 lead at the half. After the half, UNI kept it up as Evan Williams and David Johnson scored, putting the Panthers in an even bigger lead 28-7. The Coyotes caught up and scored with 5 seconds left to force overtime.
After both UNI and South Dakota kicked field goals, the game went in to double overtime. After a touchdown by the Coyotes, the Panthers could not score again to force triple overtime.
It's the second straight loss in the UNI-Dome in overtime. Last week, the Panthers fell to S. Illinois.
The Panthers will play at South Dakota State next week. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
