Middle schoolers use dodgeball to fight breast cancer

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

On Friday, a dodgeball tournament in Waterloo at Blessed Maria Catholic Middle School raised money to fight breast cancer.

Two seventh graders, Zachary Hellman and Kyle Duggan, organized the event when they found out one of their teachers, Carol Luce, had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

"When we figured out Ms. Luce had cancer, and it was October, and last year we had the same tournament, we just thought it'd be a great idea to dedicate it to her," said Hellman

"It was hard organizing all the teams and getting it all figured out, but it was a great experience," Duggan said.

Luce said she was thankful.

"This is what I've been blessed with, but I've also been blessed with positive people around me," Luce said. "I will fight the good fight."
