WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A two-vehicle accident, just north of Waterloo, sent two people to the hospital Thursday morning.

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the intersection of Highway 63 and Dunkerton Road at around 6:40 a.m. Thursday.

Deputies say a van driven by 48-year-old Lawrence Phillips of Dunkerton was headed west while trying to cross Highway 63 and was struck by a car driven by 44-year-old Deena Fischels of Denver who was headed south on Highway 63.

Both Phillips and Fischels were taken to Allen Hospital for injuries that deputies are calling non-life threatening.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Iowa State Patrol, Denver Ambulance Service and Waterloo Ambulance Service assisted.
