An Iowa City woman has pleaded guilty to driving drunk and killing her friend last year.
Miranda Lalla, 51, appeared in a Johnson County courtroom Friday morning and pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the death of her friend, 44-year-old Pamela Gross.
Police say Lalla and Gross got into a fight in a parking lot near a bar where Lalla had been drinking in June 2012.
Attorneys clarified while Lalla's blood alcohol content did not exceed .08 when it was drawn hours after the accident, a retrograde extrapolation of the test results showed she was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
During Friday's hearing, Lalla admitted that her consumption of alcohol impaired her ability.
Her sentencing date is set for December 9 at 11 a.m. Prosecutors recommend Lalla's sentence not exceed 25 years and they agree not to pursue charges that Lalla fled the scene.
Lalla can file an arrest of judgment up to five days before sentencing if she feels any of the court proceedings were carried out incorrectly.
