WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Three people have been arrested after a shooting early this morning.

Troy Evans, 20, Chorlon Devontea Smith, 16, and Dequavius Stewart, 17, all of Waterloo, were arrested. Smith and Stewart were charged with carrying weapons and going armed with intent. Evans was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent and carrying weapons.

Police say the first call came in at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning. They say someone shot at a home in the 800 block of Allen Street in Waterloo.

The second shooting happened just a few blocks away in the 600 block of West 8th Street.

Donavan Danielson lives in the 600 block of 8th street and was home with his son and wife when shots rang out.

He says two bullets went through the front of the house and exited through the back at around one this morning.

Three people were arrested shortly after. Witnesses saw them run into a garage and pointed them out to police.

Officers recovered an SKS - semi automatic rifle and magazines.

Danielson bought this home seven years ago and says in the last few years the violence has gotten worse.

"These aren't kids running around with little pistols. This is kids running around walking up the ally with an SKS assault riffle at one o'clock in the morning. Now if they're minors I want to know where the parents were and if that's a registered gun I want to know who allowed them to have it," said Danielson.

Lieutenant Michael McNamee with the Waterloo Police Department says the gun recovered does concern the department. He says normally these reports of shots fired are not random, but he believes this morning's cases were.

"I don't think we're anymore unsafe than any other city. We have our problems but larger cities tend to have different problems than smaller towns," said McNamee.
