Hawkeye Basketball Media Day

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

It was media day in Iowa City for a men's basketball team that has expectations flying after returning nearly everybody from a team that was runner-up in the  NIT last year.

It's been a while since Iowa Men's Basketball and the NCAA tournament have been mentioned in the same sentence but what in past seasons may have been considered hopes, this year are expectations.

The Hawks return 12 letterman from last years squad including leading scorers Roy Devyn Marble and Aaron White.  And while the national media may just be recognizing these Hawkeyes, they have had these goals for a long time.

Aaron White says,  "The only expectations that are different is expectations from people outside of Iowa Basketball.  ESPN, USA, people are writing about us now being in the tournament where they hadn't in the past.  Its the same mindset player by player will tell you the same thing we expect to play in the ncaa tournament we just missed it last year."

Along with all the returning weapons Iowa welcomes 2 new weapons in Wisconsin transfer Jarrod Utoff and freshman Peter Joc, giving coach McCaffery plenty of depth.

Fran McCaffery says, "That's what makes our team special is the number of weapons that we have, your absolutely right.  I can start different combinations, more importantly I can have different combinations on the floor at the end of the game.  If you're an opponent how do you prepare for that.  Are they going to go big or small?"

Marble is also likes the idea of his new his teammates on the floor.

"With the added depth that's only going to help we got guys like Peter, guys that can shoot the ball so well.  It makes it easier for me to get past my defender and if you want to help I got shooters that can knock that shot down and if you don't I can continue to go all the way."

After talking to coach McCaffery and company they clearly expect to be dancing come March.
