Public invited to celebrate Homecoming at Wartburg College

Posted: Updated:
WAVERLY (KWWL) - Wartburg College is gearing up for a large crowd this weekend.

The college will celebrate Homecoming Oct. 10-13.

According to college officials, this year's theme, "Protect the Castle," recalls the college’s namesake castle in Eisenach, Germany, where Martin Luther took refugee during the Reformation, disguised as a knight, while translating the Bible into German.

A student-led variety show kicks off Homecoming weekend on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. with the coronation of the Homecoming king and queen.

A Homecoming parade precedes Saturday's football game against Buena Vista University at 10:00 a.m. with former wrestling coach Jim Miller as the grand marshal.

The football game at Wartburg's Walston-Hoover Stadium is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.

Additional information on the weekend's events can be found here.
