With winter on its way, LIHEAP applications now being accepted

Posted: Updated:

Operation Threshold in Black Hawk, Buchanan and Grundy Counties has announced that applications for the 2013-14 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, are now being accepted for those households with an elderly or disabled member or those with a disconnect notice.

LIHEAP, which is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, is a program that helps low-income Iowans pay for a portion of their heating costs. The amount of assistance is based upon a number of factors, including household income, household size and type of fuel used for heating.

Applications for those with elderly or disabled members or a disconnect notice began being accepted on Oct. 1. All other applications will be accepted on Nov. 1.

Each applicant needs to provide personal identification, copies of social security cards for all household members, proof of all household members’ gross income for the past three months and copies of their most recent heating and electric bills.

For further information regarding energy assistance or LIHEAP assistance, contact Operation Threshold at (319) 291-2065.
