More Iowa National Guard employees facing layoffs due to shutdown

Posted: Updated:
JOHNSTON (KWWL) -

The Iowa National Guard says more than 100 additional employees are facing the possibility of layoffs due to the government shutdown.

Colonel Greg Hapgood says 16 full-time State of Iowa employees who work for the Iowa National Guard are being laid off Friday for up to 20 days. He says 95 more will be laid off for 30 days beginning on October 18. These layoffs are in addition to the nearly 1,100 federal technicians of the Iowa National Guard that were furloughed on October 1 when the government shutdown began.

On top of the layoffs, the 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City has canceled drill which was scheduled for October 5 and 6.

Training and drill for all other Iowa National Guard units and personnel which was scheduled for October 1-10 has already been canceled.

Rescheduling of all canceled training will be announced at a later date when the shutdown has ended.
