IOWA CITY (KWWL) -
A new entertainment venue opened in Iowa City Thursday. Film Scene is an independent movie theater that showed its first film Thursday night.
The nonprofit group raised $91,000 from more than 700 donors in just 33 days to open the downtown theater, which is right on the Ped Mall.
Overall founders have raised about $200,000 to get the theater up and running.
"We wanted to create an intimate, really inviting, vibrant place," said Andy Brodie, Film Scene Co-Founder. "A small, independent cinema. A nice place to come, see great films, and talk about movies and sort of build a community around cinema in Iowa City."
The next film will be shown on October 10, 2013. It's a documentary made by someone in Iowa City. That screening will be free.
