Allen Hospital receives stroke certification

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Allen Hospital announced on Thursday that they have earned a prestigious honor regarding stroke care.

Allen Hospital has earned the Advanced Primary Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

According to Jim Waterbury, spokesperson for Allen hospital, the certification means that Allen Hospital will join a group of healthcare providers that are responsible for setting the national agenda in stroke care.

“By achieving this advanced certification, Allen Hospital has thoroughly demonstrated the greatest level of commitment to the care of its patients with a complex stroke condition,” Mark R. Chassin, MD, president, The Joint Commission, said in a written statement. “Certification is a voluntary process and The Joint Commission commends Allen Hospital for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate the standard of its care for the community it serves.”

Waterbury added that the certification recognizes that Allen Hospital has state-of-the-art infrastructure along with staff and training to receive and treat patients with the most complex strokes.
