Posted: Updated:

A Waterloo family and their dog is safe following a house fire early Thursday  morning.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 700 block of Riehl Street just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

Officials say a grease fire started on the stove, eventually spreading to the blinds and the cupboards.

All four members of the family were able to get out of the home safely.

A firefighter on scene did find a dog hiding in the house, and was able to get it out safely as well.
