WIC recipients to receive October checks despite federal government shutdown

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) - WIC recipients in Iowa will receive their October WIC checks.

The United States Department of Agriculture told the Iowa WIC program that unused funds from FY13 can be used to continue issuing checks.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, the only checks that will be printed will be for participants who have not received checks

"that have a first date to use in October."

The Johnson County Department of Public Health recommends all WIC clients continue showing up to their appointments.

The Johnson County Crisis Center will still accept any donations of formula. Officials there say that's an ongoing need.
