UPDATE: Washington house fire ruled arson

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (KWWL) -

A Washington man is accused of setting fire to the home he was living in.

Crews were called to the home of 53-year-old Jonathan Leo Beam at 2180 Lexington Boulevard, which sits right across the street from the Washington County Sheriff's Office around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. Callers reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the home.

No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.

The Washington Police Department said on Thursday that Beam was charged with second degree arson and was arrested in Thayer County, Nebraska after an arrest warrant was issued.

They say Beam is awaiting extradition back to Iowa. His bond has been set at $20,000.

If convicted, Beam faces up to 10 years in prison and no more than a $10,000 fine.

The Washington Fire Department was assisted by the Kalona Fire Department, Brighton Fire Department, Ainsworth Fire Department, Washington Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
