Police: Sumner man dead after tree trunk falls on him

Posted: Updated:
READLYN (KWWL) - A rural Sumner man died Monday after a portion of a large tree trunk he was cutting up apparently fell onto him.

Barry Fink, 66, of rural Sumner, was pronounced dead at the scene of the apparent accident northeast of Readlyn, according to the Bremer County Sheriff's Office.

Officials were dispatched to a field near 1942 Sable Avenue northeast of Readlyn at around 10:43 a.m. Monday.

Fink had apparently been using a chainsaw to cut wood from a large dozer pile when a portion of a large tree trunk "shifted and came to rest" on him, according to reports.

An autopsy will be done at the State Medical Examiner's Lab in Ankeny to confirm the cause of death.

The Bremer County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Readlyn First Responders, Tripoli Fire and Sumner Ambulance.
