Posted: Updated:
CEDAR COUNTY (KWWL) -

An Evansdale man died after an ATV incident Sunday, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Nick Herman, 19, of Evansdale was reporting missing at dusk on Sunday, and officials started searching for him.

Officials say Herman was using an ATV as he removed tree stands near Buchanan, but at some point during the day, the vehicle rolled on top of him, causing fatal injuries.

Earlier reports indicated that Herman was a hunter, but officials now stress that this was not a hunting incident.

The DNR was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Cedar County Sheriff, Conservation Board and Emergency Management, Tipton Fire, West Branch Fire, Mechanicsville Fire and West Liberty Fire.
