MVC Volleyball: Wichita State rallies by UNI 3-1

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -
The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team fell to Wichita State 3-1 in the McLeod Center on Friday night. The Panthers are now 1-1 in MVC play.
 
Eryca Hingtgen led the Panthers with a career high 15 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Kinsey Caldwell recorded 47 assists and Amie Held tallied 17 digs.
 
The Panthers took the early 6-3 lead in the first set. Three points was the largest lead UNI held until Wichita State caught the Panthers and tied it up at 17-17. An attack error by the Shockers gave UNI the 18-17 lead. An attack error by the Panthers sparked a 4-0 run by Wichita State to give them the 21-18 lead. A kill by Eryca Hingtgen in the next play helped the Panthers answer with a dominant 7-0 run to win the set 25-21.
 
With the score tied at 7-7 in the second set, a kill by Hingtgen gave the Panthers the 8-7 lead. Wichita State answered with a kill in the next play to tie it up at 8-8. The set continued back and forth this way until the score was tied at 18-18. A kill by the Shockers in the next play helped them go on a 3-0 run to take the 21-18 lead. Wichita State held the lead the rest of the set and won it 25-21 to tie the match up at 1-1.
 
Wichita State took the 8-5 lead early on in the third set. The Shockers continually increased their lead throughout the set, and the Panthers could not answer. Wichita State won the set 25-20 and took the 2-1 match lead.
 
In the fourth set, the Shockers jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. The Panthers brought it back to within one at 11-10, but that was as close as they got. Wichita State regained momentum and won the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.
 
The Panthers will return to action tomorrow night at 7 when they take on Missouri State in the McLeod Center.
