Waterloo traffic stop lands Des Moines man in prison

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A Des Moines man is headed to federal prison after being found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

31-year-old Delvonn Battle was a passenger in a car that was stopped in Waterloo just before midnight on January 13, 2012, according to Pete Deegan of the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Police say a loaded 9-millimeter pistol was found under Battle's seat during the stop.

Battle was sentenced on Monday to 10 years in federal prison.

Deegan added that Battle's sentence was enhanced because the court found that he had used the gun during a shooting at a Des Moines gas station a month before the traffic stop in Waterloo. One person was injured in that gas station shooting.
