Quilts for service men and women on display at Dubuque library

Posted: Updated:

A group of men and women have volunteered their time to stitch together quilts for service men and women. The group is a part of a national community service effort called "The Quilts of Valor Foundation." The foundation creates different quilts to "comfort, honor, and thank" every service member and combat veterans of any conflict. Cyndy Billmeyer is the Iowa Coordinator for the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

"It's just a wonderful rewarding feeling. Some days are really rough and it's like why am I doing this," she said. "But for the most part the reward comes when you give the quilt of valor to a veteran."

41 Quilts of Valor quilts are currently on display at the Carnegie Stout Public Library in Dubuque. Those quilts will remain on display at the library until October 5th. Billmeyer says on October 21st those forty one quilts will be hand-given to service men and women during the All the Way Home Veterans Conference at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque.
