Iowa couple receives congressional medal for adoption

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - Waterloo natives Jonny and Kayla Craig have been selected as recipients of an Angels in Adoption award.

The couple, who currently lives in Orange City, was nominated for the award by Congressman Bruce Braley after adopting their son Joseph from Nigeria.

"We're incredibly honored and humbled to receive an Angels in Adoption award," said Kayla. "We view our adoption of Joseph as one small piece of a much bigger orphan care picture."

The Craigs will attend the Congressional Coalition on Adoption's events in Washington, D.C., in October. Since the program's inception in 1999, almost 2,000 people have received a similar award.

"We look forward to the opportunity to connect with and learn from leaders across the country who are committed to investing in the lives of children here and abroad," said Kayla.
