Jesup students volunteer during community service day

Posted: Updated:

Buchanan County got a little nicer on Wednesday thanks to Jesup High School students.

As a part of their community service day, each student was assigned to assist a local business or organization. Many helped repair and clean up an historic community gathering space.

Fort Pentecost has been free and open to the public for nearly 30 years. The couple which owns the space are now in their seventies and have a difficult time with upkeep.

Over the years, the space has been used for everything from Boy Scout meetings to Sunday picnics to weddings.

The service day became a community effort, with local businesses donating money and supplies.
