BBQ in DBQ brings community together

Many made their way to Clarke University in Dubuque Saturday afternoon for some free food and fun as a part of this year's BBQ in DBQ. BBQ in DBQ is in its 2nd year. The event is one of many events that is taking place in Dubuque as a part of the U.N. International Day of Peace. Officials with the Dubuque Human Rights Commission say the event is a way to bring people together from all backgrounds and experiences. R.R.S. Stewart is on the Dubuque Human Rights Commission.

"We have a place where different races can come together and that's important," she said. "We also remember that we have people with various ability levels and other needs in the community. We want to welcome and include all those people as well."

During BBQ in DBQ, people could participate in a number of games and activities including milk bottle knockdown, football tire toss, and the pop bottle ring toss as well as enjoy some free food. BBQ in DBQ is sponsored by the Dubuque Human Rights Commission, American Trust, the Dubuque Police Department and Auxiliary Police, Clarke University, Diamond Jo, Dubuque Independent Football League, DuTrac, The Jule, Mystique, Omega Psi Phi and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternities Inc., NAACP, and Sustainable Dubuque.
