CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -
The German heritage is alive and well in the Cedar Valley as the third annual OktoberFest starts Friday afternoon.
Live music, food and games will be at Gateway Park in Cedar Falls. Local band Checker and the Bluetones will play Friday night along with other bands throughout the weekend, including Gary's Ridgeland Dutchmen of Wisconsin, Squeezebox Larry and Darryl and Honeyshot.
When it comes to food and drink vendors, there's a little something for everyone.
"We have a wide variety of food, just a lot. From corn dogs to schnitzel to bratwurst and kraut to pretzels, and everything in between," said festival co-chair Mary Williams.
It may have a German twist, but OktoberFest offers snacks for every palette - not to mention a sampling of German beers!
Local charity benefits from the event as well. All the proceeds from the Family Fun Zone will go toward Magical Mix Kids. 93.5 The Mix organizes the event and raises money for terminally ill children to go to Disney World every year.
The park is open from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. It's free to join the fun - the only costs are food and drink. For more information, visit cedarvalleyoktoberfest.com.
