2 charged with carrying weapons in Waterloo

Two people face weapons charges following a traffic stop in Waterloo on Wednesday.

The Waterloo Police Department's Violent Crime Apprehension Team recovered two handguns during the traffic stop near Logan Avenue and Conger Street Wednesday.

According to officials, the officers stopped a vehicle around 3:15 p.m. for a traffic violation. 

Officers identified the driver as 17-year-old Nathaniel Taylor Matlock and the passenger was identified as 19-year-old James Edward Horton, both of Waterloo.

During the investigation, officers used K9 to search the vehicle, which found a loaded .25 semi-automatic handgun under Matlock's seat and a loaded .22 caliber revolver under Horton's seat.

The pair are charged with carrying weapons and were taken into the Black Hawk County Jail.
