Waterloo Council approves hotel development agreement

Posted: Updated:

The Waterloo City Council approved a development agreement to build a new Fairfield Inn in the Crossroads area.

The hotel broke ground on the development earlier this month.

The agreement would provide tax rebates for eight years.

It means an extra $50,000 in property taxes to the city.

A competitor told the council the agreement provided an unfair advantage to the developer, but the City Council disagreed in a 4-3 vote.
