Xavier survives slow start, beats Prairie 23-0

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

It was anything but pretty, but the top-ranked school in 4A has made it through the season's first three weeks unscathed.

Cedar Rapids Xavier rallied for 21 unanswered in the second half, to blank Cedar Rapids Prairie 23-0 at Saints Field.

The first half was one to forget.

The game's first 24 minutes were marred by penalties and sloppy play.

The Saints finally cashed in when Prairie's punter Jomaryon Simpson had to go to his knees to handle a low snap in the endzone for a safety.  The Saints took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
