Volunteers at Field of Dreams prepare movie site for thousands
DYERSVILLE (KWWL) -
More than a dozen major league baseball players will be making their way onto the Field of Dreams Saturday morning as a part of the Team of Dreams Spectacular. The Team of Dreams Spectacular is a part of Mystique Casino's Island Fest 2013. The Spectacular is expected to draw thousands to the Dyersville area. Denise Stillman is President and CEO of Go the Distance Baseball. She says volunteers have been preparing the Field of Dreams movie site all week for the event.
"The field got its final manicure Friday morning," she said. "It was cut twice from Dagwoods, our lawn care service, and the house got spit shined Friday morning for baseball royalty to be able to be hosted in it."
Stillman said although volunteers have been working all week on preparing the movie site, more preparations will take place the morning of the event. The Dyersville Police Department has also been working on preparing for the Team of Dreams Spectacular on Saturday morning. Brent Schroeder is the Dyersville Police Chief. He says the Dyersville Police Department will be working with other local law enforcement to ensure safety on game day.
"We just want everyone to be patient and understanding and a little extra cautious." Schroeder said.
Schroeder says the Dyersville Police Department and Dubuque County Sheriff's Department will be limiting access on Lansing Road by the Field of Dreams movie site between 6 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. He says their were also be check points at the intersection of Dyersville East Road and Lansing Road and also intersection of Lansing Road and Black Hills Road. People that live in between those check points, and their guests, will be allowed past the check points. Handicap parking and those with access credentials will also be allowed through the check points. The Team of Dreams will take to the field at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Proceeds from the Team of Dreams Spectacular admissions will be presented to the Wounded Warrior Project.
