Jordan Rommes: Athlete of the Week

Posted: Updated:

Jordan Rommes time has come --

The South Winn junior has been a solid contributor for Warrior football all 3 of his years in high school -- but hasn't gotten much of the attention until now --

South Winn Head Coach Jason Ohrt:  - "We're really excited for him to be to go-to guy this year. He's kind of been in the shadows with other great players that we've had like Colton Haggeman."

Now he's out of the shadows and in to the spotlights. Jordan currently leads the state with 400 receiving yards. In fact -- that number is better than the passing total for 313 teams in the state of Iowa.

His 6 touchdown receptions also ranks first in class 1-A --

Jordan:  "When the ball's up in the air, I'm going to get it. Garrett Bohach does a great job getting it out there, letting me go get the ball. It's been a great year. I never would have expected to have this good of a year so far."

But Rommes didn't just appear on the scene -- it just seems that way. He was the Warriors leading receiver as a sophomore -- and as a freshman -- he preserved South Winn's first round playoff victory with a tipped ball interception -- and Coach Jason Ohrt remembers exactly when he knew he was getting a great player.

Ohrt:  - "When he was in 5th grade. Ha, ha, ha."

Although Jordan Rommes has done a lot on his own -- the success the Warriors have had in the early season has been a complete team effort. South Winn returned 18 starters from a year ago -- and has one of the most talented sophomore classes in the state to complement that. And that's got everyone, including Jordan, thinking big --

Jordan:  - "We think we can do it this year. We have great skill players around us, our line is great this year. We're ready to make a run at a state title."
