GRUNDY CENTER (KWWL) -
Grundy Center Mayor Rex Van Wert told KWWL Thursday evening that the investigation and subsequent resignation of city clerk Rich Riesberg is "not financial" in nature.
"All city funds are intact," Van Wert said.
He declined to elaborate further.
The city clerk of Grundy Center resigned abruptly Wednesday evening, according to city officials, but it's not immediately clear if it is related to an investigation Wednesday by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.
City Clerk Rich Riesberg put in his resignation Wednesday evening, according to Grundy Center Mayor Rex Van Wert.
Van Wert confirmed DCI was at City Hall Wednesday, but he wouldn't say why or if the DCI investigation was related in any way to Riesberg's resignation.
He says he couldn't comment any further because of the ongoing DCI investigation.
"There is an ongoing investigation going on in Grundy Center. At this time that's all the comment I can make," Van Wert said. "I can verify the employee involved has submitted his resignation immediately, which I accepted on behalf of the council."
Van Wert added Riesberg's resignation will be formally accepted at Monday's Grundy Center City Council meeting.
