One incumbent out, two challengers on Iowa City School Board following record voter turnout

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Unofficial results show the winners of the Iowa City School Board race are incumbent Tuyet Dorau and challengers Brian Kirschling and Chris Lynch.

Recent controversial decisions by the Iowa City School Board led to record breaking voter turnout at 11.85 percent. A hot button issue was the ten year Facilities Master Plan, which called for closing Hoover Elementary School. The plan also includes building new schools and renovating current buildings.

Nine candidates were in the running for the three open seats on the board. The board's current Vice President Karla Cook lost her bid for re-election. Sarah Swisher did not run.
