Vigil held for Nashua student killed in car crash

Posted: Updated:

It would have been tough to find a quieter football stadium than Nashua's on Tuesday night.

It was the site of a candlelight vigil for Alexander Potratz, a senior football player at the high school. He was killed after authorities said he lost control of his pickup truck Monday night and crashed into a ditch near Ionia.

Potratz was first taken to a hospital in New Hampton, and then airlifted to Rochester, Minnesota.

Football players stood on the field for him, and several people spoke about his life.

Members of his family said that they were happy for the support.

"This is one of those reasons you come together to celebrate someone's life and really put it into perspective,” Andrew Potratz, Alex’s half brother, said.

Before the vigil wrapped up, all the players huddled at the center of the field and cheered, “Alex!”

The car accident is still under investigation.
