Voter turnout in Iowa City school board race will likely be higher than originally expected

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Voter turnout is likely going to be even higher than expected in Johnson county. As of 3 p.m. Tuesday more 4.58% of voters had cast a ballot in the Iowa City school board race.

One of the busiest polling places is Lemme Elementary school, one of the spots parents of Hoover Elementary students vote. The school board voted to close Hoover in July.

"I always vote but especially today we wanted to make sure we voted for the people that were willing to work hard to keep Hoover open," said Alicia Walters, a future Hoover parent.

In the Iowa City school board elections two years ago, less than six percent of voters showed up.
