Wasserbahn Waterpark facilities closed due to violations

WILLIAMSBURG (KWWL) -

The activity pool, wading pool, water slides and spa at Wasserbahn Waterpark at the Clarion Inn in Williamsburg are closed indefinitely after ongoing violations related to water quality testing, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.

The IDPH says a consent agreement was entered into by both parties Sept. 6 after ongoing violations of state swimming pool regulations.

The swimming facilities will be closed until the conditions outlined in the agreement are met.

Those conditions include repairing or replacing all equipment in need of improvement and contracting with an outside pool management company to provide oversight, direction and technical assistance.

According to the IDPH, Johnson County Public Health conducted several on-site inspections after customers complained about the water park back in March.

They say they found several violations, including repeated failures to properly chlorinate the swimming facility, maintain proper water chemistry, and conduct proper testing and record keeping.

The IDPH says a proposed order to close was filed in June after Wasserbahn failed to comply with several corrective action plans. After an appeal, the owners signed the consent agreement on Sept. 6, immediately closing the swimming facilities.
