The heat is on: Temps to reach all-time highs Monday

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - The heat is on in Eastern Iowa as temperatures are expected to reach near all-time record highs on Monday.

Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90's and close to 100 degrees all across the KWWL viewing area.

The unusual late season heat has schools all across the area closing early and adjusting athletic practice schedules to keep students safe.

It is recommended that if you know someone who lives without air conditioning, you check on them regularly.

Power companies are recommending that you put off running appliances like dishwashers, washing machines and dryers until the evening when the temperatures begin to cool down and the demand on electricity is lower.

Relief, however, is in sight. KWWL Meteorologist Eileen Loan says highs will reach the upper 80's on Tuesday, lower 80's on Wednesday and then fall into the 70's by Thursday.
