IOC votes to keep wrestling in Olympics

Posted: Updated:
BUENOS AIRES (KWWL) -

Olympic wrestling will go on.  After 7 months of uncertainty, the International Olympic Committee voted to keep the sport in the Olympics, denying the bids of baseball/softball and squash.

The vote guarantees that wrestling will be part of the 2020 and 2024 games.

The sport was eliminated from the Olympic program in February to the devastation of the wrestling community.  Leaders in the sport, however, rallied to get wrestling voted back in to the games.

When Sunday's vote was announced, wrestling received 49 votes to 24 and 22 for baseball-softball and squash respectively.
