CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
Martin Paul Wilkinson, 64, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter as a habitual offender and possession of a firearm as a felon in connection with a 2012 homicide.
Wilkinson was originally charged with first degree murder and possession of a firearm as a felon in the August 2012 murder of 47-year-old Gregory O'Hare.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office says O'Hare was found face down near 2558 Janette Nehl Lane in rural Central City, an area known as "Muckersville".
Deputies say an investigation led them to Wilkinson. They then spent nearly six hours negotiating with Wilkinson before resorting to tear gas and a taser gun to get him out of a home at 2567 Windy Hill Circle.
Wilkinson faces up to 30 years in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
