Pit bull bites Waterloo Police officer

A Waterloo Police officer is recovering, after being bitten by a pit bull Tuesday.

Waterloo Police responded to a report of a white pit bull running loose in the 400 block of Cherry Street at around 9:53 a.m. Tuesday. The dog was dragging a chain.

When police responded, one of the officers was bitten on the left forearm, according to police.

The officer, who was unnamed in the release, then pushed the dog away while another officer tased the dog.

The dog was caught and held until the City of Waterloo Animal Control Officer arrived on scene.

The injured officer was treated and released from Allen Occupational Health.

Animal control located the dog's owner and is following up on the incident, according to Waterloo Police.
