Farm Bill future uncertain

Posted: Updated:

As the U.S. House of Representatives debates the Farm Bill, the outlook appears less hopeful for a resolution this year.

Still, officials said it’s not out of the question. The Farm Bill passed the Senate in June with a substantial bipartisan majority.

The House agreed on the farm portions of the bill, but the money for food stamps is the snag in the process.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey said politicians and farmers alike are getting tired of the feud.

"You know, I'm hopeful,” he said. “I don't know if I can be optimistic anymore. It's been such a long struggle. I think all farmers are kind of tired of the drama that's been this Farm Bill.”

In order for the President to sign it, the House must first reach an agreement by September 1.
