CLAYTON COUNTY (KWWL) -

A crash in Clayton County sent one sheriff's deputy to the hospital Tuesday night.  The crash happened when a driver rear-ended the deputy's car during a traffic stop.

The crash happened around 10:15 p.m.  The Iowa State Patrol says Clayton County Deputy Craig Johnson pulled over a pickup on Highway 18, west of Dolphin Avenue.  Another driver, 84-year-old Mary Svendsen, rear-ended the deputy's vehicle.  The State Patrol says Svendsen was driving on the shoulder of the road, but at highway speeds.

Deputy Johnson and Svendsen were taken to a local hospital. There's no word on their current conditions, but the Clayton County Sheriff's Office is expected to release more information Wednesday.
