Cedar Rapids man facing federal gun possession charge


A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Monday and charged with being a drug user in possession of a gun.

The United States District Court in the Northern District of Iowa says 30-year-old Matthew James Stover was arrested by Cedar Rapids police at his home on Jacolyn Drive.

An indictment that was sealed pending his arrest, charges Stover with unlawfully possessing a .223 caliber Bushmaster rifle and numerous rounds of ammunition as an unlawful user of controlled substances. Stover

pleaded not guilty to the indictment on Monday in federal court.

He was released on the conditions that he submit to GPS monitoring and be on house arrest until he reports for inpatient drug and mental health treatment in Minnesota on Thursday.

Stover faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
