Collectors part with collection after more than 60 years

DUBUQUE COUNTY (KWWL) -

In Dubuque County, more than 100 farm items one couple collected through their lifetime was up for bid. Joe and Ruth Lansing have been collecting various items for more than 60 years. Joe Lansing says he realized with his age, it might soon be time to part with those items. But he said he wanted to make sure he could tell others stories about each of the items that was being auctioned. Lansing was an avid collector of many different farm items including hit-and-miss motor engines - something he took pride in rebuilding.

"I learned a lot about engines. That was my main reason for doing this was to try to fix them up," Lansing said. "Sometimes you can't do it, but a lot of times can. I had a lot of fun and inspiration doing it."

Along with hit-and-miss motor engines, Lansing also auctioned off many antiques and farming tools. It was not an easy sight to watch his collection be sold off piece-by-piece.

"I had a collection of over 60 years, he said. "I saved everything I guess...I probably shouldn't have, but it is all going now..." Lansing said.

Lansing says he hopes everyone who bought something gets as much joy out of the items as he did.
