CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
KWWL got a sneak peak inside the new Cedar Rapids Downtown Library. The library is having a few private events before the grand opening on Saturday.
The old downtown library was destroyed in the floods of 2008. This building has a much larger children's area, a cafe, an auditorium, and a rooftop terrace where you can hold private events.
"People are amazed," said Bob Pasicznyuk, Director of the Cedar Rapids Downtown Library. "They've done without a public library for so long to have this main public library come online. I just see bright faces. People have been staring in the windows for two weeks. We've actually had people sneaking in just hoping to get a book."
The library has more than 200,000 items in its collection. To celebrate the grand opening, the library is hosting a day full of events on Saturday.
