IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa City has a new Fire Chief. John Grier was sworn in as chief at Tuesday's Iowa City City Council meeting.

Grier was previously Iowa City's Fire Marshal. He's been with he department since 1992.

He's wanted to be a fire chief since he was a kid.

"I grew up in a fire house," said Grier. "My dad was a fire chief. So it's something I've wanted to do for a long time and, finally here!"

Grier replaces Chief Andy Rocca who retired in May after 35 years with the Iowa city Fire Department.
