Cross-country scooter group hopes to raise awareness of childhood obesity

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A group fighting childhood obesity rolled into Cedar Rapids this afternoon.

The Y Fliker Across America team is going coast to coast to raise awareness of the disease.

The group is named after their Y Fliker scooter, a three-wheeled scooter that works many muscles in the body.

They hope to raise enough money to buy 1,000 of the scooters for schools. Each scooter costs $50.

"It's really safe and really stable so it provides kids with a safe way of doing a full-body workout and have fun at the same time," said Georgia Mitchell, Y Fliker Across America team member.

The group is traveling across 17 states in three months.
