Waterloo moves forward on tax incentives for retail development

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The City of Waterloo is moving forward on an incentive package for a multimillion dollar retail development.

The first phase of demolition work has already started at Crossing Point Plaza in the former Kmart Plaza near Ridgeway Avenue and San Marnan Drive.

City officials say the development qualifies for tax incentives.

They hope the project spurs more development.

"We really think that them fixing up that main building will help draw and attract new tenants (and) new retail businesses here as well as new restaurants on the small out-lots," said Waterloo Community Planning and Development Director Noel Anderson.

The city council could sign off on the agreement in as little as three weeks.
