Minnesota man arrested for 1999 murder of Judith Weeks
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
A Minnesota man was arrested Friday and charged with murdering a Cedar Rapids woman more than 14 years ago.
Deshaun Lamonte Phillips, 34, of Shakopee, Minn., was arrested Friday in Shakopee and charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of Judith Weeks, according to the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
The body of Weeks was found near 1319 2nd Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids on April 5, 1999, according to police. She was 44.
Officials said Weeks died from multiple injuries but had insufficient evidence to file charges at the time.
Recently, investigators were specifically assigned to the Weeks case and developed new information regarding Phillips, according to officials. They then pursued that evidence and filed charges, leading to his arrest.
The Linn County Attorney's Office assisted police.
