CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The weather was perfect for the 38th annual St. Jude's Sweet Corn Festival in Cedar Rapids. The family friendly event has plenty of carnival rides, games, and food.

Last week volunteers shucked 25,000 ears of the sweet corn the festival is named for. Organizers say they ran out of corn Saturday night, so they shucked another 3,600 and ran out again on Sunday.

There's been years where we've come close and I think one year where somebody remembered us shucking and cleaning some but never this early that I can remember," said Michael Glynn, Festival Chairperson."It's definitely our biggest year."

The festival is the church's largest fundraiser of the year. The money goes towards church programs and charities in Eastern Iowa.
