CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Ten people are without a home Saturday night following an apartment complex fire in Cedar Rapids.

The fire happened around just before 5:30 Saturday afternoon at Oakland Apartments at 3300 Oakland Road NE.

At the time of the fire, four adults and one child were in the complex, all of which got out safely before firefighters arrived. Two other adults and three other children live in the complex.

When firefighters arrived there was smoke in the common hallway on the ground level. Upon inspection, officials found that apartment #3 was completely charred with smoke. At that time, the fire was found between the first floor and basement level apartments. It was determined that much of the fire was in an attic space above the basement laundry room.

Much of the building sustained smoke damage, resulting in the displacement of residents.

A cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
