BROOKLYN (KWWL) -

A Poweshiek County man is dead after is parachute opened during a plane ride Friday evening.

The Iowa State Patrol says 56-year-old Wayne F. Kidrowski of Brooklyn was in a small airplane that had just taken off from the Skydive Iowa facility in Brooklyn. According to initial reports, his parachute deployed in the plane, pulling him out.

The owner of Skydive Iowa, Bruce Kennedy, said Kidrowski wanted to enjoy a plane ride Friday night instead of a jump. Even though he didn't plan on skydiving, Kennedy said he requires everyone to wear a parachute.

The pilot was the only other person in the plane. He was not hurt.

The Iowa State Patrol and FAA are trying to determine why and how the parachute opened.
