MARION (KWWL) -

The City of Marion says they have closed their swimming pool for the day at the request of the Linn County Department of Public Health.

Amber Bisinger, Communications Coordinator for Marion, says the pool will be closed Thursday for hyper chlorination in response to an increasing number of cases of Cryptosporidiosis cases in the county.

Bisinger stresses that this is just a precautionary measure.

Cryptosporidiosis, or "Crypto," is caused by a parasite that infects people swimming in, or drinking, contaminated water.

Symptoms of Crypto include watery diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and a low-grade fever.

The pool will reopen at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

The Marion Municipal Swimming Pool closes for the season on Sunday.
